Food Sampling

Introduction

VegFund event grants help vegan advocates in their outreach efforts by funding pre-approved vegan food samples, serving supplies, educational literature, and booth fees for suitable events.  Before applying for a grant, read through our website and familiarize yourself with our guidelines.

NOTE: To assure that you receive reimbursement, please apply at least TWO WEEKS in advance of your event date, and follow these guidelines:

1. Focus on doing outreach at large public venues such as green or eco fairs, street festivals, college campuses, or other places that draw a large non-vegan crowd.  This will ensure predictable attendance.  Our calendar lists some large upcoming festivals and events in your area: http://www.vegfund.org/events-calendar.html However, you can find even more events via internet search.

2. VegFund occasionally provides funding for smaller events that are organized by a vegan activist (e.g., movie screenings).  However, ALL the food at the event must be 100% vegan, the event must be likely to bring in a sufficient non-vegan crowd, and it should be free to the public.

3. The purpose of our funding is to introduce non-vegans to direct alternatives to meat, dairy, and eggs.  You should serve samples that are eye-opening to non-vegans and will help them transition away from animal products.  Examples include vegan mock meats, non-dairy milks, vegan cheese or ice cream, and vegan versions of egg-based products (e.g., tofu scramble). Visit this link for more sampling ideas: http://www.vegfund.org/food-sampling-suggestions.html

4. To help us support as many events as possible, and to get the most for our funds, we ask that you always serve bite-sized samples such as sandwiches cut into 4ths, vegan meats on toothpicks, or vegan milks in Dixie cups.  We are unable to fund full-course meals or buffet-style spreads.

5. During events, everyone who takes a sample should be given educational literature. Some may refuse, but most people will take the brochure/leaflet when it is directly handed to them with a food sample.  Educational literature is a required part of all events we fund, and the literature should discuss the realities of factory farming.  Visit this page for suggested literature: http://www.vegfund.org/vegfund-literature.html

6.  We do not provide funding for events that serve alcohol.  For more information, please see our FAQ page.

7.  Please note that VegFund reserves the right to deny reimbursement for the following items: non-vegan foods, excessive or wasteful items, food or ingredients which contain products not readily available for purchase in your area, gratuities, wages, travel expenses, special equipment, special food for volunteers, bottled water, shipping, signage, office supplies, printing, ice, items which have little or no value in vegan education (e.g., coffee/tea/other common beverages) or any other items that do not fit in with the VegFund mission.

WHEN IN DOUBT GET APPROVAL!
