Funding for Activists – The 2018 Vegan Warrior Virtual Summit
with VegFund Executive Director, Leslie Barcus
Leslie Barcus, Executive Director of VegFund, speaks on the topic of “Funding for Activists” at the 2018 Vegan Warrior Summit. She discusses how vegan activists and organizations can receive financial support through VegFund grants and explains how to apply for a grant as well as what activities are eligible for funding through VegFund. She emphasizes the following points — but watch the full video for more!
- VegFund’s mission is to empower activists’ outreach efforts to create behavior change and inspire others to adopt a vegan lifestyle. VegFund approaches this goal from a holistic standpoint by funding both modest and sophisticated proposals that promote the way that veganism benefits animals, the environment, and human health.
- All grantees should be eighteen years of age or older and vegan. A few exceptions apply: 1) VegFund does consider non-vegan applicants interested in hosting screenings of vegan-related films and documentaries, 2) a non-vegan partnering with a vegan in organizing an outreach activity may be acceptable, 3) VegFund supports conferences, some of which may not be fully vegan in theme but contain valuable vegan content.
- If you are new to vegan activism, consider planning an event that features vegan food sampling, paid-per-view (PPV), or virtual reality (VR) video with a community group or a buddy. These activities are both easy to organize and effective. Documentary film screenings are also a good choice. You can reserve space at community centers or churches for smaller crowds – or, rent space at theaters for larger crowds.
- Vegan activism is important, and it can be challenging! It takes patience, persistence, knowledge, and thought — and VegFund wants to support you on your journey as a vegan activist.
