Join us as we march to dramatize the connection between animal exploitation and pandemics, from COVID-19 and swine flu to SARS and HIV. This international day of action is spearheaded by Eating Animals Causes Pandemics, a new organization drafted in response to the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to their guidance and the resources they have prepared for organizers across the world, our St. Louis day of action will feature galvanizing signs, fact-filled postcards, and hazmat suits to underscore the biological terror posed by factory farms, slaughterhouses, and other animal-abusing institutions.
Why now? COVID-19 is one of dozens of pathogens believed or known to have surfaced as a direct result of animal exploitation. Yet our mainstream media and health organizations almost never advertise the fact that we could prevent roughly 75% of emerging pathogens simply by no longer raising and killing over 70 billion land animals for food each year. The end result is dire; eventually, a new superbug will surface that is both highly transmissible and many times more lethal than COVID-19 (picture a superbug as transmissible as the common cold but as deadly as Ebola). Unless we take drastic action, we are doomed to a never-ending cycle of often entirely preventable pandemics. Join the campaign!
With roughly 75% of emerging diseases originating from more-than-human animals, especially those confined in filthy, disease-breeding factory farms, we must pressure institutions to drastically curtail and eventually abolish all factory farms, fur farms, fish farms, and other animal-exploiting institutions. En route to abolishing these institutions, we would like to: 1) convince local animal advocacy organizations and fully vegetarian and vegan establishments to release an official position statement on the issue including a well- sourced white paper we will provide; and 2) pressure local health-based organizations, including yoga centers, local health food stores, and holistic healthcare centers, to issue a statement acknowledging the connection between animal agriculture and emerging diseases including said white paper.
